Where heritage meets hospitality
Look, we're not gonna lie - this place has seen more history than most Vancouver landmarks combined.
Back in 1887, this wasn't some fancy hotel. Nope, it was the Halvron Iron Forge, where skilled craftsmen hammered out everything from railway parts to decorative gates. The Quint family ran it for three generations, and honestly? You can still feel that energy in the bones of this building.
When we transformed this forge into a hotel in 2003, everyone thought we were crazy. Tear down those exposed beams? Remove the original brick? Not a chance.
The renovation took nearly two years because we refused to rush it. Every piece of reclaimed wood, every restored ironwork detail, every brick we salvaged - it all tells part of the Halvron story.
We brought in local artisans (some are actually descendants of the original forge workers, which gives us chills) to help preserve the craftsmanship. The result? A space that feels like stepping into Vancouver's past while enjoying all the comforts you'd expect from a modern boutique hotel.
That squeaky floorboard on the second floor? Original 1887 Douglas fir. We left it there on purpose.
Each room features furniture crafted by local woodworkers using techniques passed down through generations. The headboards in our suites? Made from timber salvaged from the original forge roof. Can't buy that kind of authenticity.
Our concierge team doesn't just recommend tourist traps. They'll tell you where THEY actually eat on their days off, which hidden trails are worth hiking, and which local galleries are showcasing emerging artists. It's hospitality without the script.
We've got original forge tools displayed throughout the hotel, vintage photos in every hallway, and if you ask nicely, our manager Margaret will give you the full historical tour - she's been here since day one of the renovation and knows every story.
Preserving historic buildings IS sustainability. But we've also added solar panels (hidden from street view, obviously), rainwater collection, and partnerships with local farms for our restaurant. Heritage and green living aren't mutually exclusive around here.
When you stay with us, you're not just booking a room - you're becoming part of a story that's been unfolding for over a century. And yeah, that sounds cheesy, but come spend a night here and you'll get it.
We've got everyone from third-generation Vancouverites to recent transplants who fell in love with this building's character. What connects us? An almost ridiculous passion for making sure every guest feels the magic of this place.
Our head chef trained in France but insists on sourcing ingredients from BC farms. Our lead spa therapist incorporates traditional Indigenous wellness practices. Our maintenance crew knows every quirk of this 136-year-old building.
Come say helloWhether you're here for business, a weekend escape, or just need a break from the ordinary - we've got a room with your name on it (well, not literally, but you know what we mean).
